When to see a doctor?

Chest Pain

Chest pain is sometimes muscular or related to the stomach, but it could be a sign of a heart attack. If you are not sure, treat it as an emergency.

Be careful

  • Do not wait at home to see if it goes away on its own.
  • Do not drive yourself to the hospital.

See a doctor within 1 to 2 days if:

  • Mild pain that increases when pressing on the chest or moving, after exercise or lifting heavy objects.
  • Heartburn after eating that recurs frequently.

Go to emergency immediately or call 122 if:

  • Pressure, squeezing, or heaviness in the center of the chest.
  • Pain spreading to the arm, jaw, neck, or back.
  • Accompanied by cold sweats, nausea, or shortness of breath.
  • Fainting or feeling close to fainting.
  • Sudden sharp pain with shortness of breath, especially after a long journey or surgery.

Women, the Elderly, and Diabetic Patients

  • In these individuals, a heart attack may sometimes present only with shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, or nausea, without clear chest pain.
